Thrice we had been attacked as we entered Falkreath they had been little shitting things in comparison to the first beast I had relieved of its life. It wasn't their size that was the issue however, it was their cunning. All three had lain in wait on a ledge overlooking the roadside, under a pine trees bough's, or buried under a thin layer of snow. The last little shit had nearly robbed Mace of his life. It lay buried beside the road, pouncing it took me from the saddle by the sheer force of the impact and had raked open Maces side with its rear talons. I had managed to overcome the little brute and sever its head with the now sharpened edge of my dragon-bone shield, a little gift Anorien had picked up from the first dragon I'd killed...
Taking hold of Maces reins I lead him into the safety of the mines. A unique gem vein ran through the walls glowing an fiery amber-yellow as it reflected the light of my torch. Looking down the tunnel the amber yellow eventually turned to a cooler yellow glow. It seemed as though the light of my torch lit the entire mine through this gem formation. Looking at Mace I observed, "Well I suppose that explains the name..."
Leading him deeper into the mine we came upon a decent sized alcove deeper in the mine and began to set up camp. there were 6 chairs and a table in the alcove though all but 2 chairs were in rough shape. So all but the 2 chairs became firewood in short order to light the mine. Once we were settled in I took a second look at Maces wounds and stitched up the wounds as best I could from a small easily accessible field kit.
Now that the camp was finally in some form of order I took up the woodmans axe and ensured Lokdagnir was buckled securely in place and took to the forest to look for a tree I might be able to get into the mine to begin splitting for firewood, making my way to the entrance of the mine and out once more into the chill winter air as a few snowflakes tumbled lazily from the sky...
