Skogurheim: Ivarstead, Skyrim

The flames roared hungrily as I stepped forth from the ruins of Skogurheim. In one hand I carried a heavy chainmail sack swung back and forth with each step, clutched tightly to my chest with the other hand was a small wriggling form wrapped in leather. Crossing through the snow on the back patio, each step hissed angrily leaving a trail of steaming foot prints as I made my way to the stables where a large Draft horse stood snorting and stomping in fear. Dropping the chain sack to the floor it set the wriggling leather wrap on the floor beside it, "Skaela, stay." I spoke in a quite tone, though its voice was dripping with fury. It straightened and the crossed back yard watching the skies for the massive shadowy form of the wretched beast of fury and flame. Stepping back into the roaring dragon fires greedily consuming the first building in the last 21 years which could could truely call home, it growled curses under it's breath at it's missing foe. Wrapping a chain around the top of the building already weakening central support I take up my Dragonbone shield strapping it to my back and ram Diinaanzahreikiisk home into its scabbard killing the quickly evaporating little cloud of mist surrounding it's frigid bone blade. Taking up the chain I walk back out into the snow and begins tugging at the chain hard enough that the edges of it's vision blur reddish and veins stand out on my neck and arms under my armor, and with one last mighty tug at the chain the entire house collapses in on itself... Looking once more to the skies I reach up and remove my helm to reveal my scalp shaved clean of hair save for my long goatee and eye brows. Looking up at the skies I roar out with an undeniably infuriated voice, "Wise move wurm, but I will find you. I will crush you. I will forge new weapons from your very bones, and will hang your merry skull over my mantle... For I am the the one your brethren flee from. I, Vorm Odinnson am the one they call "Thu'umnu Gein," and I will rend your very soul until even Akatosh will be unable to recognize his own handiwork!!!"

I sat on a bucket quietly scratching little Skaela's back while roasting a rabbit haunch over the coals of my once beautiful home trying to guess at where the damned beast would have flown off too when the distant sound of marching boots caught my ear, checking the sun I looked down at the pup and complained quietly, "Damned fool of a Tribune must still be sitting in charge... Ugh I had asked the Empress the right to put someone better in charge but no, the little fuck is related... UGH, I tell you Skaela these men are going to be damn near worthless to us... but many hands makes for light work..." Placing my head in my hand I thought back over the last Month. The Empire had sent an emissary to come calling on an "old friend" they called me... come to think of it I couldn't remember telling this particular friend where i had built my home, the asses couldn't even get that right hardly i found the fool wandering aimlessly through the brush 4 miles from my home while out surveying for good fishing spots, to build them a trade settlement to be watched over by the legions... I shot that down quickly informing them that the legions would irritate the locals, besides legions know nothing of trade save the trading of blows. In the end I had convinced them to let the legion Engineers, build this town. But once built, they needed to staff it secretly, if they wanted a legion presence, with retired Legionnaires. This way they would still have men around who were capable of defending the trading post from outside threats but these men would need to be primarily Nordic, that they could more easily blend in with the locals. After hours of debate and a bit of brawling the emissary finally saw the light. And so I demanded the 913th legion which had been pulled from Valenwood when I retired until a worthy Tribune could be found to replace me. After a year of sitting on their asses it had come to me to whip them back into shape, now my lazy Tribune was shuffling through the snow on its way to help me expand my now decimated homestead. Looking up from the embers roasting my rabbit I watched as the Legion slowly approaches.

"You. Civilian. You by the fire, speak up, is this the road to the Skogurheim estate? Speak up." I ignored the pompous little Imperial windbag. I knew it would infuriate him so I sat and checked the haunch. It was nearly done, I reset the haunch over the coals and scratched little Skaela's head with one hand and sucked the grease off the fingers of my other. I got up slowly and turned to Tribune Augustus pulling back my armored left fist and slamming it into the little pricks bared nose. Standing over him holding his nose I respond, "Even life in the Imperial city hasn't taught you any fucking manners Tribune. And your concept of time is as non existent as ever... How i n the Aedra's name did you EVER get promoted to Tribune, you lazy son of a skeever... GET TO YOUR FUCKING FEET BEFORE I GUT YOU WHERE YOU LAY!" He groaned and climbed to his feet, yelling out over his shoulder to the Legionnaires looking about nervously as he gets up, "As for the rest of you! My name is Vorm Odinnson, as of this moment I am once again your Legatus in both rank and rights as per Legion law and your Empresses wishes! Now I need the scouts front and center!" With some shuffling 30 legion scouts stepped forward from the ranks and came to stand before me. I easily recognized each and every one of them. I addressed them as a while. "Gentlemen, as you can see behind me we have a bit of a... Dragon problem. I ask that you head out in all directions and find a location which is defensible, well provisioned with water, is relatively flat and has a clear view of our surroundings. Keep in mind this is to be a traders village so the people must be able to move their goods too and from with relative ease. Now move out and keep an eye on the skies Aedra only know where that dragons gone... Move out, and its good to see you all once more." They all came over and shook my hand as they took off on their task. Tribune Augustus came back trying to regain command, "Hey, HEY! All of you get back here! Come back this instant!" He spun back to me finger pointing fingers, "YOU! THIS IS YOUR FAULT!" I glared at him annoyed, "Meric, and... Aelyn? Ha-ha good to see you again, take the Tribune here and strip that excessively fancy tin suit and take a switch to him. One for each hour he was late, five more for his being rude to a civilian, and ten more for being rude to a superior officer..." Meric was doing the math on his fingers, "But sir, that's uh, that's a good 50 some odd switches..." I gave him an evil little grin, "Well I suppose you'd best space them out then... Don't want the Tribune to miss any of it..." "You cain't-" he squeezed. I didn't let him finish, I back handed him hard across the face with my shield arm, "Be silent you boot licking, milk-drinking little cur, you're no leader, give me one reason not to stake you out for a mudcrab. You adiggers.th know the men would have my back over yours every day. They never did like you, fool. Nor do I, which is why you've not been promoted and never will so long as I have a say..." Aelyn and Meric dragged him away to issue the punishment before the men, leaving me free to address them, "LEGIONNAIRES! It's time legion law returned to your pathetic ranks! Now settle in, once the scouts find a good location your all going to become my very own personal labor legion. Centurions, get off your asses I need to know who among them are going to be my masons, my carpenters, my diggers, and so on, and so forth! I want a proper legion camp set up three hours ago! Now move your asses or strip your armor and end up like your joke of a Tribune!" Grumbling I turned back to the coals, only to find Skaela sitting there with the stick holding the haunch held in her jaws, sitting, tail wagging waiting for her share of the meal....
