Stalking out through the snow I stay on high alert, if the little dragons are as sneaky as they were earlier I could only assume that the older a dragon got the more cunning it would become. I stalked through the snow as quietly as I could looking for a decent sized tree I would be able to haul back to the mine on my own while Mace was resting to aid in recovering from his wounds. Spotting a decent sized pine some 50 yards from the entrance to the mine with boughs some 3 feet wider than the mines door.
"Kynareth you're such a blessing," scanning the surroundings I look for anything that may resemble a dragon hidden beneath the snow or crouched behind a rock or bush, anything resembling a threat. I saw nothing of the sort and breathed a sigh of relief. Taking one last look I turn to the tree and begin to hack away at its trunk.
I had made it about half way through the trunk when a roar shattered the silence of the forest in the distance behind me. I quickly dropped my axe and tugged Lokdagnir from its sheath as I turned to run closer to the roar so as to keep the dragon from burning the timber I had been working to cut down to ash. Setting myself some 100 yards away in a small clearing I watched as a monsterous shape leapt into the air from a distent peak, "Ugh Stendarr defend me, Talos guide my blade..."
No more than a minute had passed when the Wyrm of Oblivion was on me, I ducked behind my shield as it roared its challenge and bathed me in the raging fires of Oblivion. It glided overhead and ceased its inferno as it wheeled to its right circling back to its peak as if believing its flames had silenced the noise of my axe...
Stepping from the flames I looked myself over, checking myself over to see if I was infact dead and just imagining I still lived. After a quick but thorough inspection, I began to laugh feeling my battle rage boiling over and roared back my challenge at the shrinking dragon. It shrieked a sound of what I could only assume to be shock and quickly banked to the right once more to return and put an end to what I could only hope would be my irritating defiance.
It swooped down into the clearing shaking the world with its landing and shrieked what seemed to be a second challenge at me, "Vik hei joor Zu'u fen foz hein slen nol hein qeth((Damn you mortal, I will rend your flesh from your bone))!!!"
I stand there shifting from foot to foot as it rages at me, as it finishes it sends forth a second breath of fire, this time I dont even hide behind the shield, I stand there openly in defiance beginning to regret my decision as I feel the armor begin to heat up. It was not melting at all but it still got fairly warm inside. I could feel the sweat begin to roll down my face into my eyes. Damn this may not be good. I may have just blinded myself... All of the sudden the fires stopped and through stinging eyes I made out the dragons eyes widen, "Fos los hei ((What are you))?!"
I roared in wordless rage in the giant beasts face only to be met by its jaws snapping just short of my shield and slashed out with Lokdagnir slicing into its left nostral, bringing forth a shriek of enraged pain. It quickly reared up on its hind legs and flapped its wings which in and of themselves nearly sent me tumbling back wards, but followed their whirlwind draft with a roar, "Fus-Ro-DAH!"
The world around me erupted with snow and all the next thing I knew I was tumbling backwards like a wheel that had been whipped down the mountainside by a giant. As I began to slow in my tumble I slammed into something hard and had the wind knocked from me. As I sat there the world with the world still tumbling I realized that I had lost Lokdagnir in my tumbling and struggled to regain my breath, as the world stopped its rolling I made out the dragon hobbling forward through the trees knocking them down in its rage and caught sight of my sword buried point first in the ground directly in its path.
Shit within moments he would be directly between me and my blade, I began to fumble around for something, anything I might be able to defend myself with and my hand clamped down around something. pulling it up I found my wood axe clamped upside down in my hand, stumbling to my feet I tossed it up in the air and caught its grip in my hand, backwards of course, and flipped it around looking up on the enraged dragon hobbling towards me on all fours. As it raged forwards it lifted its wings right behind my blade and sent it flying towards me only to bury point first in a tree trunk some 10 yards behind me... just my bloody luck... Returning my gaze on the approaching dragon I gave another roar of challenge and raged forward banging the axe against my shield.
We met head on in a rightous clash of fangs, flesh, and steel. It caught my upraised shield of dragon bone and ebony in its jaws while the head of the axe arched around to the side and caught it in the throat casting a throaty hollow thrump as I crashed into the back of my shield. It quickly released its grip on my shield and sent me tumbling to the side as it jerked its head down in reaction to the axes blade burying itself in its throat and tore the axe from my grip. A sickening thought of embaressment ripped through my thoughts, at the rate I was losing weapons how could I ever claim to have been a Legionnaire let alone a Legitus... Shaking the thought from my head I rattle my body back to the matter at hand and regained my feet, racing to my blade buried in the trunk of the tree. Ripping it from the bough I turned and raged back to confront my snarling enemy. I slammed into its side slashing my bladed repeatedly through its wing membrane drawing a gurgling growl from its throat as it flicked me away with its wing. I crashed once more into the tree I had been working to cut down not 5 minutes before, which cracked audibly. Sliding down the trunk I had no more than a couple heartbeats before the dragons jaws came racing towards me with a gurgling hiss. Diving out of the way I barely got out of the way of its jaws which clamped down on the tree. Thinking it had me in its jaws it shoke its head violently snapping the tree from its trunk only to realize it had missed and released its grip, sending the tree tumbling to the earth before snapping at me once more. Dodging back I punched out with my shields upper edge, slicing a nice chunk of flesh from its cheek, only to have its tail whip around and catch me behind the legs.
I fell back in what seemed to be slow motion only to have the dragons jaws clamp around my waist and lift me from the ground. It began to shake me like a ragdoll. As I was flailed about I did some flailing of my own slashing at the dragons face with my blade and shook the shield free of my arm. As my shield fell free, it slowed its flailing of my body, believing I had dropped my blade and let forth an airy growl from its bleeding throat. As its eye openned and focused on my I smirked in triumph and rammed my blade straight into the pupil of is chilling silver eye, ramming the blade down into its skull all the way to the hilt.
It released its jaws and began once more to flail about trying to shake my now burning blade free of its body. Holding onto the blade with both hands I could feel the blade scratch at the bone as it worked its way free of the skull while the dragon hissed out an airy roar. With what seemed to be the last of its strength it whipped its head up and away from me, my hands slipped from the grip of my blade and I flailed for the blade as I fell to the earth. With a crash of steel I landed on my back in a daze. Through blurry eyes I could see one hand reach for my blade in the dragons eye while the other took hold of my shield, pulling it to me as my sight began to darken and a massive weight fell heavily on top of me with my last breath I gasped out as darkness flooded over me, "Stendarr.... protect me...... Talos guide my-"
